Source Students Participate in Governor’s
Easter Egg Roll
DENVER—April
24, 2003 -- Eighty children from the Learning Source for Adults and
Families recently participated in the third annual Governor’s
Easter Egg Roll at the Governor’s Mansion. The children and their
parents are participants in the Toyota Families in Schools program located
in four Aurora elementary schools – Fulton, Jamaica, Laredo and
Montview.
The event, sponsored by Douglas County Republican Women,
gave children an opportunity to roll eggs, do crafts, and participate
in a variety
of other activities, including: learning about crime prevention from
McGruff and representatives from the Douglas County Sherrif’s Department,
having their picture taken with the Easter Bunny, and learning about
book illustrations from Helle Urban, illustrator of the popular children’s
book, C is for Centennial. Children and parents were also entertained
by Steve Spangler, “the science guy” in an interactive demonstration
of electricity and water conservation.
“The kids and their parents had a lot of fun despite the fact
that we got moved inside due to rain,” says Susan Lythgoe, executive
director of The Learning Source for Adults and Families.
Each child received a commemorative egg signed by Gov. Bill Owens, an
autographed copy of C is for Centennial, and a bag of Easter goodies,
all compliments of the Douglas County Republican Women.
Established in 1964, The Learning Source believes education
is essential to people’s freedom, their confidence, and their
ability to perform in the family, community and workplace. The organization
provides opportunities
for motivated adult learners and families to attain educational goals
through adult and family literacy; GED and English instruction provided
by trained volunteer tutors, led by a dedicated staff; and accessible
centers located within the community.
