Former First Lady Barbara Bush Promotes the Importance of Literacy; The Learning Source Receives Donation from Boise Office Solutions
DENVER—Nov. 11, 2002 -- Former First Lady Barbara Bush recently addressed the importance of family literacy at a seminar for more than 1,200 BOISE® Office Solutions’ Denver-area customers. Bush shared her experiences as Former First Lady and founder of the Barbara Bush Foundation for Family Literacy. Following her speech, Boise Office Solutions presented a donation of $5,560, in addition to new and gently used books donated by customers, to The Learning Source for Adults and Families, a non-profit literacy organization in metro-Denver.
“We are very thankful for Boise’s donation, and we will use the money and the books at our five family literacy centers in the metro-area,” says Susan Lythgoe, executive director of The Learning Source. “Mrs. Bush gave an inspirational speech on the importance of family literacy in America. She offered valuable lessons that audience members could apply to their own lives and careers.”
Established in 1964, The Learning Source believes education is essential to people’s freedom, their confidence, and their ability to perform in the family, community and workplace. The organization provides opportunities for motivated adult learners and families to attain educational goals through adult and family literacy; GED and English instruction provided by trained volunteer tutors, led by a dedicated staff; and accessible centers located within the community.
