Programs & History

The Learning Source began in a church basement in 1964 as the Colorado LiteracyAdult Education Tutorial Program with only 40 students and 16 volunteers. During the 2006/07 school year we reached just under 3,000 adults and families in 24 programs at fourteen locations throughout metro Denver. We could not have done this without the help of more than 100 volunteers.

Our centers are located in diverse locations such as community centers. schools, church basements, and the Denver County Jail.

 MISSION STATEMENT

  English Language Classes

English Language Centers are located in high-need communities throughout Aurora and Lakewood.  Instruction at these centers is focused on giving non-native English speaking adults proficiency in spoken English, reading and writing.   Additionally, teachers and tutors help adult learners understand and effectively function within their communities and the American Culture.  Currently, centers are operating in these locations:

·         Belmar Literacy Center, Lakewood

·         Community  College of Aurora, Lowry Campus

·         East Middle School, Aurora

·         South Middle School, Aurora

Community volunteers provide much of the instruction in these learning centers and are key to our ability to help more than 1,600 adults improve their ability to function effectively in English.

Adult Basic Education, GED  College Preparation

It is our goal to give motivated adults the opportunity to improve their basic skills to get a GED, pass a proficiency test or enroll in community college or other vocational, technical programs.  Many of our students report getting better jobs, promotions, certificates or degrees after attending our neighborhood centers.

The Learning Source has been providing adult basic education, GED and College Preparation classes in high need communities throughout metro Denver since 1964.  We continue to operate neighborhood centers in Aurora and Lakewood with the help of community volunteers who give their time to help others learn.  We are currently offering adult basic education and GED preparation centers at:

·         Belmar Literacy Center, Lakewood

·         Community  College of Aurora, Lowry Campus

·         Community College of Aurora, CentreTech Campus
